How to block a sender and unsubscribe from newsletters

2 min readWindowsAndroidAll plans

In short

For junk mail choose “Mark as spam”: the message moves to the mailbox’s Spam folder and that sender’s future messages land there by themselves. “Block sender” is stronger: their messages go to Trash. For newsletters, use “Unsubscribe” in the message, available on every plan.

How do I block a sender on my PC?#

  1. Open a message from the sender.
  2. Choose Block sender.
  3. Confirm: “Their future messages will go to Trash. This message will be trashed too.”

From then on, new messages from that address go straight to Trash, before you even see them.

Where can I find my list of blocked senders?#

In Tools → Blocked senders. For each address you’ll see the date and time it was blocked, and you can press Unblock. From the same page you can also block an address in advance by typing it into the “Block an address… e.g. spam@example.com” field.

What about Android?#

In the message, tap Block: emails from that sender will go to the Trash on every sync, just like on the PC. The list is in Tools → Privacy, with the Unblock button. With shared settings the blocked list is the same on PC and phone.

Mark as spam or block?#

  • Mark as spam (on the phone Spam): moves the message to the mailbox’s Spam folder on the server and remembers the sender. Their future messages go straight to Spam, on PC and phone. It’s the right choice for ordinary junk mail.
  • Block sender: stronger, messages go to the Trash. Use it for senders who keep bothering you.

If a message lands in Spam by mistake, open it from the Spam folder and choose Not spam: it goes back to the Inbox and the sender (even if their whole domain had been added) leaves the spam list. The sender’s images don’t change: if they were trusted, they stay trusted.

The spam senders list is in Privacy & security → Spam senders, where you can also add a whole domain (for example “promo-deals.com”). Smart Priority never marks spam senders as priority.

How do I unsubscribe from a newsletter?#

When a message declares an unsubscribe link, the Unsubscribe button appears in the reader, on every plan. With Plus and Premium you also get the Subscriptions manager under Tools: it gathers every newsletter detected, shows which ones are still active, and lets you unsubscribe in one click where the sender allows it.
