Using Mailamber on your PC and phone together

2 min readWindowsAndroidAll plans

In short

Your mail stays in sync on its own, because your PC and phone read the same mailbox from your provider. With shared settings, on by default, your rules, templates, signatures, blocked senders and preferences also sync across your account’s devices, encrypted. Choices that belong to a single device, like starting with Windows, stay local.

To use your PC and phone together, you need a plan with at least two devices: Plus or Premium.

How does my mail stay in sync?#

Without going through us. Each device connects directly to the same mailbox at your provider over IMAP, so everything saved on the server shows up everywhere: read and unread messages, folders, moves, stars, deletions, sent mail. It’s the same principle as webmail, with no Mailamber cloud in between.

What do shared settings sync?#

In versions after Mailamber 1.8.0 for Windows and 1.0.6 for Android, shared settings keep these aligned across the devices on your Mailamber account:

When you change something on one device, the others receive it at the next sync. If the same item changes on two devices, the most recent change wins.

Where do I turn them on, and how do I force a sync?#

They’re on by default. On your PC you’ll find them in Settings → General → Settings sync, with the Shared settings between PC and phone switch; on Android in Settings → Settings sync, with Settings shared with your PC. The status shows the last sync; Sync now starts one right away. You need to be signed in to your Mailamber account.

What stays on a single device?#

  • PC-specific choices: starting with Windows, the notification area, message windows, desktop notifications;
  • snoozes (the message doesn’t move on the server) and senders trusted for images;
  • your contacts address book;
  • mailbox passwords and access tokens, which are never synced.

The phone handles simpler rules than the PC (one condition, one action) and doesn’t have signatures yet: PC items it can’t use stay saved and are not deleted (“… items from your PC can’t be used on the phone (e.g. complex rules or signatures): they stay saved.”).

Are shared settings private?#

Yes. Only these settings, encrypted, reach Mailamber’s servers in the European Union: never passwords, access tokens or email content. If you prefer, you can turn sharing off on a single device: that device will keep its own local settings.

Do the two apps have the same features?#

Almost. The Android app has direct sync, tracking and link clicks, PEC, follow-up, snooze, rules, templates and the AI assistant; some advanced features are Windows-only for now. The full comparison is in Mailamber on Android: what’s included.
