Mailamber account vs. email mailboxes: what’s the difference?

2 min readWindowsAndroidAll plans

In short

Your Mailamber account (the email and password you choose on mailamber.app) activates the app and your plan. Email mailboxes are the addresses you read in Mailamber: they connect directly to your provider, and their credentials never reach our servers.

Mailamber involves two different things, and it helps not to mix them up.

What is the Mailamber account for?#

Your Mailamber account is the one you create on the website or in the app. It’s used only to:

  • activate the app and your plan (Free, Plus or Premium);
  • link your devices to your license, within your plan’s limit;
  • manage your subscription, add-ons and invoices from the account area;
  • open support tickets (Plus and Premium).

The app asks for it on first launch, on both Windows and Android: without signing in, no mail is shown. On the PC you can tick “Stay signed in on this PC (otherwise you'll sign in at every launch)” so you don’t have to enter it at every launch.

What are email mailboxes?#

Mailboxes are your email addresses: Gmail, Outlook, Libero, PEC, your company domain. You add them inside the app with Add account, and the app connects directly to your provider over IMAP and SMTP. Mailbox passwords and tokens stay encrypted on your device and never pass through Mailamber’s servers (how it works).

Why do I have to confirm my email address?#

After you sign up, we send you a verification link. Until you open it, signing in from the app may be refused with the message “Your email address is not verified yet. Check your inbox (and spam).” If you can’t find it, check your spam folder or have it resent from the app or the account area.

How can I protect my account better?#

Turn on two-step verification from the Security tab of the account area: on top of your password you’ll need a 6-digit code generated by an app on your phone, so your plan, licenses and devices stay safe even if your password ends up in the wrong hands. It’s optional and free on every plan.

Can I change my email or delete my account?#

The account email can’t be changed from the account area. You can, however, delete your account from the Profile tab: any subscription is canceled and the data on our servers is deleted, while the mail on your PC or phone isn’t touched. From the same area you can also export your account data as JSON.
