Start with Windows, system tray and notifications

In short

By default Mailamber starts with Windows hidden in the system tray and, when you close the window, keeps running there: that way mail, snoozes and scheduled sends arrive on time. Notifications, sound and quiet hours are set in Settings → Notifications.

Does Mailamber start automatically when I turn on my PC?#

Yes, by default. Start with Windows is on in Settings → General: when you sign in to Windows, Mailamber opens in the system tray, with no windows, and mail arrives right away. Switch the toggle off if you’d rather open it yourself.

Why does Mailamber keep running when I close the window?#

Because Minimize to tray on close is on by default: when you close the window, the app keeps working in the system tray, next to the clock. That’s how snoozes, scheduled sends, rules and notifications work even when you’re not looking at it.

  • Click the icon: reopens the window.
  • Right-click: Open Mailamber or Quit, to really close the app.
  • The red number on the taskbar icon shows your unread messages.

From Windows 1.14.0, the first time you close the window a notice (“Mailamber is still running”) reminds you that Mailamber keeps running. If start with Windows or close to tray is off, when the first open of a tracked email comes in Mailamber offers to switch both on, only once.

How do I adjust notifications?#

In Settings → Notifications:

  • Desktop notifications: “Alerts you to new mail, opens and reminders when the window is in the background or closed to the notification area.” With the window in front, you see an in-app alert instead.
  • Notification sound with Sound volume and Tone: Classic, Soft or Bright.
  • Quiet hours: no notifications and no sounds during the chosen window (10 PM to 7 AM by default), for every kind of alert.

At startup, if emails arrived while the app was closed, you get a single summary instead of a flood of notifications. Notifications also alert you to follow-ups, opens and PEC receipts.

From Windows 1.14.0 you’ll also find Test notifications and the First open and First link click toggles, and opens and clicks on tracked emails arrive in real time even with the window closed to the system tray. Full details in Open, click and new mail notifications.
