Open, click and new mail notifications
In short
Mailamber alerts you to new mail, snoozes, follow-ups and, for tracked emails, to the first open and (with Tracking Pro) the first click, only once per email. From Windows 1.14.0 and Android 1.4.0, opens and clicks arrive in real time, even with the window closed to the system tray or the app closed on your phone.
What does Mailamber notify me about?#
Everything that needs your attention, on PC and phone:
- New mail, with sender and subject.
- First open of a tracked email: only once per email, even if you sent it from your other device.
- First click on a link in a tracked email, only with Tracking Pro (the only case in which links are tracked).
- Snoozes that end and follow-ups with no reply; on the PC also PEC receipts.
Only counted opens and clicks trigger a notification: security scanners, link previews, automatic opens and your own views never do. With several recipients there is one pixel per email, so the notification says the email was opened, not by which recipient. Nothing is notified more than 14 days after the event.

Do open notifications arrive in real time?#
Yes, from Windows 1.14.0 and Android 1.4.0: they usually arrive a few seconds after the open (the first click a few seconds later, the time it takes to rule out scanner bursts).
- On the PC, Mailamber’s engine stays connected even with the window closed to the system tray.
- On Android, alerts arrive as push notifications even when the app is closed. In Settings → Notifications you can see which mode is active: Instant alerts on (“Reads and clicks arrive right away, even when the app is closed.”) or Alerts from the app (“With the app open, reads and clicks arrive in real time; with the app closed, at Android’s periodic check (usually within 15 minutes).”).
If several opens come in while you’re away, you get a single summary, never a flood.
How do notifications work on the PC?#
It depends on where you are:
- Window in the background or closed to the system tray: a Windows notification with Mailamber’s sound (opens and clicks have a sound of their own, different from mail). Clicking an open shows the email’s details in the Tracking view; clicking a new email opens the message.
- Window in front: an alert inside the app, with View details.
- After being away (app closed or PC off): one summary for mail and one for tracked emails (“Tracked emails: while you were away”).
The first time you close the window, a one-off notice (“Mailamber is still running”) reminds you that Mailamber keeps working in the system tray. If Start with Windows or Minimize to tray on close is off, at the first notified open (or when you turn tracking on) Mailamber suggests “Never miss an open”: Turn on switches both on. The suggestion appears only once.
How do I adjust notifications on the PC?#
In Settings → Notifications:
- Desktop notifications, Notification sound and Tone.
- Test notifications: the Test button shows a sample notification with the chosen sound.
- Tracked emails: the First open and First link click toggles.
- Quiet hours: during the chosen window, no notifications and no sounds for every kind of alert (mail, opens, clicks, follow-ups, PEC). The app still stays up to date.
How do notifications work on Android?#
From Android 1.4.0:
- App closed: opens and clicks arrive as push notifications; a tap opens the email’s details in the Tracking screen.
- App open: instead of a system notification, a Mailamber banner appears at the top of the screen; tap it to open the same details.
- New mail: the phone checks your mail by itself and creates notifications locally; when many emails arrive together you get a single summary notification instead of one per message. See Android notifications and battery settings.
How do I grant the notification permission on Android?#
On Android 13 and later, before the system prompt Mailamber shows a “We’ll keep you posted” screen explaining what you’ll receive: new mail, reads and clicks, reminders. Turn on notifications opens Android’s prompt; Not now postpones it by a week (at most three times).
If notifications are blocked, Settings → Notifications shows “Notifications are off” with a button to turn them back on.
How do I change sounds and channels on Android?#
In the app, under Settings → Notifications, you’ll find Notification sound, Quiet hours and the Notify me on first open and Notify me on first click toggles. During quiet hours notifications still arrive, but silently.
For the sound, vibration, importance and pop-up banner of each kind of alert, tap Channels, sounds and style: Android’s settings open, with the channels split into the Mail and Tracking groups:
| Channel | When it’s used |
|---|---|
| New mail | Newly arrived email, with sound. |
| New mail (silent) | Email that arrives with sound off or during quiet hours. |
| Reads and clicks | First open of a tracked email and first click on one of its links. |
| Reads and clicks (silent) | The same alerts without sound: sound off or quiet hours. |
| Snoozed messages | When a snoozed message comes back to your inbox. |
| Follow-up reminders | When it is time to follow up on an unanswered email. |
Do my emails go through servers for notifications?#
No. New mail notifications are created on your device, which reads your mailbox directly: mail never goes through Mailamber’s servers (local-first). Only tracking milestones (first open and first click) come from the server. On Android the push goes through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and carries the notification text: the email’s subject, the first recipient and the domain of the clicked link. If you like, Android can hide notification content on the lock screen. Details in Tracking privacy and in the privacy policy.
