Outlook, Hotmail and Microsoft 365 with “Sign in with Microsoft”
In short
Press “Sign in with Microsoft”, sign in on the Microsoft page that opens and accept the requested permissions. Mailamber gets dedicated access to your mail, without ever seeing your password.
Microsoft no longer accepts your normal password in email programs that use IMAP and SMTP: Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, MSN and Microsoft 365 require modern authentication (OAuth). Mailamber supports it with a single button, on PC and Android.
How do I connect Outlook on Windows?#
- Open Add account and press Sign in with Microsoft. The app shows “Opening your browser…”.
- Microsoft’s official page (
login.microsoftonline.com) opens in your browser: choose or enter your account and complete the sign-in, including 2-step verification if you have it on. - Microsoft asks you to allow Mailamber to read and send your mail. Accept.
- Go back to Mailamber: the mailbox appears in the sidebar and syncing starts by itself.
How do I connect Outlook on Android?#
Tap Add mailbox and then Sign in with Microsoft: Microsoft’s page opens; sign in and allow access. If you type an Outlook address into the manual fields, the app reminds you: “For Outlook, Hotmail and Live use the «Sign in with Microsoft» button: Microsoft no longer accepts password sign-in.”
Which permissions does Mailamber ask for?#
Only those mail needs: mailbox access over IMAP, sending over SMTP, ongoing access (so you don’t have to sign in every time) and your email address. The “token” Microsoft issues stays encrypted on your device and is used only to talk to Microsoft’s servers. Mailamber never sees or stores your Microsoft password.
Does it work with a work or school account?#
Often, yes. Some organizations, though, only allow external apps after an administrator approves them: in that case Microsoft shows “Need admin approval”. What to do is explained in Microsoft sign-in blocked by your organization.
How do I revoke access?#
Remove the mailbox from Mailamber, or revoke the app from the Microsoft account Privacy page (for personal accounts), or ask your administrator (for work accounts). Mail you’ve already downloaded stays on the device until you remove the mailbox.
