Contacts: groups, duplicates and the address book check

In short

Mailamber keeps one card per email address, so duplicates can’t be created. Imports merge by address, and Check address book finds invalid addresses, misspelled domains and possible duplicates, which you can fix or merge with one click.

Where are my contacts?#

On Windows, open Contacts in the sidebar; on Android, open Contacts from the side menu. The address book lives on your devices and fills up on its own with the people you write to and who write to you; you can also save an address with the “+” that appears next to a new recipient while you write.

Automated senders (no-reply addresses) and mailing lists are left out of the list, so your address book stays made of real people.

How does Mailamber avoid duplicate contacts?#

Each email address belongs to one card only. If you try to save an address that is already on another contact, Mailamber tells you instead of creating a copy. A person with several addresses keeps them all on the same card (a main address plus extra ones).

When you import a vCard or CSV file (Import), contacts are merged by address: existing cards are updated, new ones are added, and nothing is duplicated. Entries without a valid email address are skipped. At the end you see how many contacts are new, updated and unchanged.

How do I check my address book for errors and duplicates?#

Use Check address book in the contacts window (on Android: Check contacts). Mailamber checks every saved contact and groups what it finds:

  1. Invalid addresses: addresses that can’t receive email because they’re malformed. Press Open to correct the contact.
  2. Probably misspelled domain: addresses whose domain looks like a misspelled well-known provider, for example gmial.com instead of gmail.com or .con instead of .com. Press Fix to apply the suggested address.
  3. Possible duplicates: contacts that are probably the same person, either because they have the same first and last name or because they use the same mailbox written in different ways (for example dots and “+labels” in Gmail addresses).
  4. Press Merge, choose which contact stays and confirm: the others are merged into it with all their addresses, notes and groups, then removed.

If nothing needs attention you see how many contacts were checked and that no problems were found. The check runs entirely on your device: no contact data is sent anywhere.

Can I group contacts and email a whole group?#

Yes. Add one or more groups to a contact (for example “clients” or “suppliers”), then type the group name in the recipients field: Mailamber adds all its members, without repeating anyone already there. You can also mark contacts as favorites (VIP).

What does a contact card show?#

Besides name, company, phone, address and notes, each card shows how many emails you exchanged, the first and last contact, recent conversations and attachments you exchanged, plus quick actions such as writing a new message or blocking the sender.

Do contacts sync between PC and phone?#

Yes, with the same Mailamber account your saved contacts stay aligned between Windows and Android, together with rules, templates and signatures. Your emails don’t: they stay on each device. See PC and phone.
