Not getting notifications? How to fix them

In short

On your PC, check that Mailamber is open or in the system tray, that desktop notifications are on, and that neither quiet hours nor Windows’ Do not disturb is active. On Android, grant the notification permission and remove the battery restrictions for Mailamber.

Why am I not getting notifications on my PC?#

Check, in this order:

  1. Is Mailamber running? Notifications only arrive if the app is open or in the system tray. If you closed it with Quit, open it again; keep Start with Windows and Minimize to tray on close turned on.
  2. Notifications on in Mailamber. In Settings → Notifications, Desktop notifications must be on.
  3. Quiet hours. If they’re active, no notifications or sounds arrive during the chosen window.
  4. Is the window in front? With Mailamber in the foreground, you see an in-app alert instead of a Windows notification.
  5. Windows settings. In Settings → System → Notifications, check that notifications are allowed for Mailamber and that Do not disturb (or “Focus assist” on Windows 10) is off.
  6. Is the mailbox connected? If a mailbox is Offline or Password needs updating, it doesn’t receive mail, so it can’t notify you: see IMAP and SMTP errors.

Why don’t I get the open or click notification?#

Usually because the open wasn’t counted or the alert is off. Check:

  1. Was the email tracked? Only emails sent with tracking on have opens: see How email tracking works.
  2. Was the open counted? Security scanners, link previews, automatic opens and your own views don’t trigger alerts. If you’re testing with one of your own addresses, open the email from another device and another network.
  3. Is it the first one? The alert only comes for the first open and the first click of each email, not for later ones, and never more than 14 days after the event.
  4. Are the toggles on? On the PC First open and First link click, on Android Notify me on first open and Notify me on first click. The first click is only notified with Tracking Pro.
  5. Are you signed in to your Mailamber account? Opens and clicks come from your account’s tracking register.

The toggles and real-time alerts arrive from Windows 1.14.0 and Android 1.4.0: full details in Open, click and new mail notifications.

Why am I not getting notifications on Android?#

  1. Notification permission. In Android Settings → Apps → Mailamber → Notifications, allow notifications and check that Mailamber’s channels are on: from Android 1.4.0 they are New mail, Reads and clicks and the others described in Notifications; in earlier versions the channel is called Mail.
  2. Battery. Remove the battery restrictions for Mailamber (Battery → Unrestricted): full guide.
  3. Quiet hours in Mailamber and Android’s Do not disturb: during the chosen window, notifications arrive silently or aren’t shown.
  4. Sign-in and device. Background sync only works if you’re signed in to your Mailamber account and the phone has a free slot: if you see No free device slot, free up a device.

Why do notifications arrive late on Android?#

Because the app checks for mail in the background about every 15 minutes, and Android can stretch the interval when the phone is idle or in power-saving mode. It isn’t a fault: for urgent mail, open the app and refresh.

This applies to new mail. From Android 1.4.0, opens and clicks on tracked emails arrive instead as real-time push notifications, even with the app closed, when Settings → Notifications shows Instant alerts on.
